Beatrice Stone Yavne High School for Girls

8th Grade English Project

The students in 8th grade English class just finished studying the play The Miracle Worker, viewing the movie, and having a class visit by a person who is blind.  Max Edelman, a survivor of the Holocaust, was blinded by the Nazis when they beat him badly.  He brought in his seeing-eye dog, Boychick, as well as some of the assistive technology he uses.  The girls were excited and interested and asked many questions.

In our next lesson, the girls will explore two additional  disabilities from among those listed under IDEA.  They will have a chance to see videos, participate in simulations, and read information about the disabilities they choose to research.  I look forward to the discussion that ensues after their research is done!
